Out of Darkness

by Elizabeth Melton Parsons

I had the privilege of reading Ms. Parson’s book—a collection of poems that are exceptionally crafted.  This gifted author has complied an impressive variety of styles—and made their study a wonderful experience.  The book would be a great one to be read aloud in the forums where people appreciate the communication style well written poetry provides.

Particularly in evidence are very strong emotive expressions that are dark and real in terms of the psychology of the hard, fast, and real horrors of abuse and other tragic human experiences.  It also includes poems that wonderfully express very sensuous and lasting impressions of love in its desired form.  Most human beings want or know the definition of true love, real love, love in its purest intent, effect and desire it for love’s sake and the book takes you there.  It is clear Ms. Parsons understands true passion for another and uses fresh analogies and well crafted language to describe it all beautifully.

From “Six O’clock,” which is a clear description of a woman’s anguish when she is trying to please a self-absorbed man to her warm, beautiful reflections of love such as in “You Are,” Ms. Parsons covers the range of human emotions born out of the tragedies and the triumphs we all deal with in life.  Every poem offers its own gift—there are many surprises.  One final one I should mention because of her ability to think deeply is “PopTook Mama,” a nicely done work on the death of a father and husband.

I appreciate the opportunity to have seen the book and do very much recommend it as a truly unique experience for the reader—it’ll speak to you.

Out of Darkness

Boy, your poem 'Abuse' really hit home, right on the mark! I felt your fear, your anger your mixed emotions but most of all I heard the sad cries from your dear innocent heart-Crying out so that just for one day, one single moment of justification, someone  would hear also-God bless you 'soul sister'-

Thought 'Desire' ever so provocative & sexy ~ A hunger almost?? LOL

'A moment with you' says just how far & how deep love really is!! Beautiful mate~

5 GOLD STARS & a BOX OF KLEENEX!!!!  Certainly what you deserve for that poem ( 'Your love for me') and so I can dry my eyes????

'Your love is like a compass that gives me direction'.........how poetic & well written into that poem!

"Out of Darkness"  is filled with poems that truly understand the human need to love and to be loved. It expresses the feelings of being trapped when in an abusive relationship and it conveys how a victim may assume responsibility for their situation. I truly enjoyed reading “Out of Darkness” because it held my attention hostage from beginning to end.

Review
Out of Darkness by Elizabeth Melton Parsons is a book of poems about various emotions She writes about living in the present, searching for love, loss, friendship, family, and death. Parsons has a gift for using words to express emotions and lets us understand her journey. I particularly enjoyed Eagle's Flight, Home Again, Lonely Spirit, Beast, and The Kill. This is a good first book and I look forward to seeing future work by this author.
