'Two Mixed Up'

Fought to keep him near from me
But now he's dead I'm sad
Am I wrong to feel this way
Was what I lost so bad?

I can't and won't deny the truth
His tongue as sharp as his hand
Wedding vows that soon tuned sour
Just as fast as I'd married this man

I hid my shame from all I knew
I soon believed my lies
Yet late at night within the shadows
The darkness heard my cries

Time has flown and carried me
To where I stand today
And in that time I've come to see
I've traveled an awful long way

His hands can never touch me
His words they have been silenced
And even though I've forgiven him
I thank God I'm free of violence!

For all victims of domestic violence...
