
Why Are You Fat?
It's all about attitude....Yeah Right!!!!
I read the most ridiculous article recently on why naturally thin people are naturally thin. Give me a break! According to the article...The main reason why those much envied and often hated naturally thin people are thin is because they don't think about it. They don't count calories or stress about their weight; most do not even own a bathroom scale. Their bodies just tell them when, what and how much to eat and they are always into some kind of fitness. The 'right kind' of fitness because their bodies tell them what and how much they need. They don't allow society to stress them out about their body image and are self-confident and have a high level of success in both their professional and personal lives because they aren't putting all their energy into how much they weigh.
Well, goody, goody for them.
I have a different take on the matter. I happen to have many friends who are just naturally thin. Do they constantly worry about their weight?? No, but that isn't why they are thin. They don't think about it because they DON'T HAVE TO!! They don't allow society's perceived notion of the perfect image stress them because they are that image. What's to stress about??
As for their
bodies telling them the exact time and thing to eat and never allowing them to
over eat because of some automatic full gage is just ludicrous. I have a friend
that has weighed 110 pounds consistently for the past twenty years and she will
be the first to tell you that she's a glutton. She can out eat all the rest of
us combined, has often eaten so much that she lay around moaning and groaning
afterwards about how sick she was from over eating. And her idea of working out
is to go the fridge for a snack while watching TV.
So...most
of these naturally thin people aren't thin because 'they don't think about it', they
don't think about it because they are thin. They just happen to have been born
with a very high metabolism and damaged hormones. Their fat hormones have no
notion of how to store fat. Storing fat is a body's defense system against
times of famine. And some of us have very efficient working systems. For those
of us living where food is plentiful, this system works against us, storing
every single bite of unnecessary food. In a famine situation, these naturally
thin people will be the first to go. We who struggle constantly with our weight
will be the survivors.
Wahoo! But just in case that situation never arises for us, as
unfortunately it has for millions around the globe, perhaps we can gain some
sort of wisdom from the article I read and take it to heart. In my opinion we
should love others and ourselves for who we are regardless of whether we are
efficient fat storing machines or the hormonally damaged. Maybe if enough of us
can adopt this attitude, society's warped notion of the perfect image will also
change. One can only hope.
